How can we ensure that we get a good return on investment for IPv6 training?
When it comes to maximizing the return on investment (ROI) for IPv6 training, I'm a firm believer in doing the right training for the right people at the right time. If you just take a bunch of employees from an organization and put them in a set of classes at random, they could forget what they learned by the time they get the chance to use or apply the knowledge. It's important, therefore, to maintain perspective. Put a plan in place that gives you an idea of when these employees are going to start to come into play. Tip #1: Solicit feedback.
Tip #2: It's easier to develop an IPv6 training strategy if you understand the interests and experiences of those in your group. For example, if you have a training plan for architects, it's important to deliver a very specific type of knowledge to them. You should also have different tracks for the deployment staff and the implementation staff. A well-prepared training strategy that lines up with the testing resources is going to save a lot of money.
Tip #3: This field is constantly changing, and industry leaders typically do not use best practices. Oftentimes we see large IPv6 deployments and case studies, but they lack a clear set of best practices. This is something that is currently in development. Be sure the type of training you implement is dynamic and able to continuously evolve. It should not be a standard discussion about the basics and fundamentals on IPv6, but instead a learning platform for experts to tailor their training to each team's needs. The trainers should also be up to speed on your company's personal objectives and be experienced in the actual implementation of the deployment of the protocol.
