Cloud computing survey reveals buyer trends for 2014

Hybrid cloud hosting speeds up

Cloud computing continues to grow in enterprises and in small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), with 67% of respondents saying they are using some form of cloud computing -- up from 61% in TechTarget's fall 2012 Cloud Pulse survey. And good news for cloud providers: Public cloud remains the go-to cloud computing model, with nearly 40% of respondents reporting they currently use public cloud services.

The hybrid cloud model is gaining traction in the market, however, rising from 29.5% of respondents using the model in 2012 to 38.6% in 2013. According to Gartner, 70% of enterprises will pursue a hybrid cloud hosting model by 2015. Why? The goal for many enterprises is to create hybrid clouds that are more scalable, elastic and cost-efficient to use than private or public clouds.
